Battery Earnings

Generate extra income from your battery

Make the most of your battery

Earn extra income from your battery during special events run by the National Grid to buy your battery-stored electricity from you at an elevated rate in times of high-demand.

You could earn up to £2/kWh of exported electricity automatically, which is great since we all have to buy it at about £0.30/kWh!

What do I need to take part?

As long as you have a Smart Meter, a battery and haven't signed up for the events through another provider, you could benefit from this scheme with us.

With your permission, we'll make sure your battery has been charged from your solar panels or from cheap overnight energy before the event happens. Then, at the start of the event, we'll automatically tell the battery to discharge and sell to the grid. You don't need to lift a finger!

Why are the National Grid running this scheme?

When meeting the energy demands of the country, the National Grid use the cheapest source of electricity first, which helps keeps the costs down for everyone. As renewables  are consistently the cheapest, it's also helping to clean up the grid too!

During certain peak times, instead of turning on an expensive and dirty form of energy generation like coal, it actually becomes cheaper to pay lots of small energy providers for energy that you can put into the grid.
